Define: Slippery Slope…

From Slate (HT Christ and Pop Culture):

Earlier this week, when President Obama lifted the ban on federal funding of stem-cell research using destroyed human embryos, I said the moral dilemmas in this field would become increasingly difficult….

Two arguments have persuaded the United States to fund stem-cell research using destroyed embryos. One is that the research will save lives. The other is that the embryos, left over from fertility treatments, will otherwise be wasted.

Both arguments are now being applied to fetuses.

I’ve said before that Embryonic Stem Cell Reseach is more hype than hope, but apparently that’s all it takes these days to justify opening Pandora’s Box….

  1. Sadly, hype seems to justify all kinds of evil nowadays. I’m amazed at how few people see through it.

  2. With a number of scientists saying that the breakthrough of Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells from ordinary adult cells has made embryonic cell research obsolete, it seems either that Obama’s scientific advisers have served him badly, or, more likely, that this was a political chit paid to the pro-choice lobby. Either way, it was a predictable, but very disturbing, move by the President.

  3. Sigh… I’m afraid you’re both right.
